Volunteering is a great way of assisting non-profit organisations. Volunteers are placed in positions based on interest, need, skills, location and availability Every non-profit organisation’s listing on CharitySA has a form that you can complete to enquire about volunteering opportunities.

Volunteering at the home

Giving of your time and skills is an invaluable way to bring joy and hope into the life of a child who’s been neglected or abused.

 

  • Helping with group and individual homework.
  • Assist with school projects.
  • Tutoring for high school students in certain subjects.
  • Playing with the children.
  • Assisting Child and Youth Care Workers with the children over the weekend.
  • Interacting and occupying preschoolers during homework time.
  • Providing support to our office staff.
  • Take kids on outings.
  • Sponsor outing (e.g.: movie tickets, etc)
  • Visit CHANCE Children’s Home and get to know kids.
  • Treat CHANCE Children’s Home with takeaways.
  • Assist with Marketing.
  • Needlework – repair of clothes.
  • Assist with birthday parties.
  • Look after kids if houseparents have to go out to meetings, etc.
  • Help with organising functions.
  • Professional / Medical services – Dentist, Doctors etc

Helping with donations

  • Our children need a steady supply of soap, toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, body lotion, brushes, combs, face cloths, sponges, etc.
  • We needs furniture and floor polish, dishwashing liquid, washing powder, stasoft, toilet rolls, Handy Andy, Harpic, bleach, dusters, mops, scourers, etc.
  • We appreciate basic food items such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk, eggs, cornflakes and rice krispies, flour, oats, maize meal, baked beans, jam, fish paste, cooking oil, etc.
  • Pajamas, school clothes, tracksuits, socks, underwear, trainers, etc. Please contact us for a complete list and sizes needed.
  • Sheets, blankets and pillows
  • Knives, Forks, Spoons, Teaspoons, Dinner
  • Plates and Bowls
  • Stationery and school bags
    Age appropriate good books

CHANCE Children’s Home relies entirely upon the generosity of its donors.

You can support us in many ways. Unless your donation is anonymous, please always advise us of your donation to ensure that we received it.

We will be able to issue you with a Section 18A certificate for tax purposes once the donation has been received.

Hosting a child

Hosting a child involves a greater commitment, inviting the child into your home for a day or weekend – especially over the holidays – and involving them in your family life, treats and outings.

Exposing a child to a normal family environment is a gift we would like to provide to all of our children. If you think that you would be interested in hosting a child over the weekends and holidays, please contact our social worker.
The children are in need of constant, consistent care and support. By adopting a child, you are committing to donating a monthly fee in her or his name.

When you elect to sponsor a child, you will receive information including the child’s name, age, interests, and special requests.This donation will directly impact a child’s future and will make a difference that will extend throughout her or his life.

Maintenance work

This is for maintenance of our homes and outer buildings

  • perimeter walls and appliances
  • plumbing
  • tiling
  • carpentry
  • welding
  • painting
  • electrical repairs
  • some homes need soft furnishings and deco inside

CHANCE Children’s Home also needs assistance with maintenance upkeep or replacing old furniture.

For the garden we need

  • manure
  • topsoil
  • plants
  • garden equipment
  • landscapers
  • outdoor toys

Maintenance work, eg cleaning windows, painting, utilising a skill you may have.
